2008 Rock Shox Mountain Bike Components at Sea Otter

Reba Power Bulge

The big news here is that the 120mm Reba rumors are true. This will make a lot of riders very happy in the 29er and 26er market. With the increased travel on the Revelation and 20mm option…you have to wonder…what will happen to the Pike line? I guess we will find out soon enough, but in the meantime…SRAM continues to raise the bar in suspension forks. ’08/’09 should be extremely exciting.

2008 Sea Otter Classic – Syncros Components

I run the Syncros Bulk bars, so I am really excited to see new products in the Syncros line. I also think I have found the pedals that I have been looking for. Those will work out great on the 6″ bike for DH/FR duty. Their “grunge” graphics will take some getting used to, but they are already starting to grow on me.

The State of the Bike Industry

Jill is right, and I am really surprised that we haven’t actually seen this sooner. My “real job” involves a lot of steel, aluminum and rubber purchasing domestically and from overseas. Prices are increasing at a rate that most manufacturers can’t keep up with the increases.

Shimano Saint Group – All New

Shimano Saint Caliper

The new Saint groupset shares some features and characteristics with the current group but on further inspection is also completely new on many levels. And it’s black and gold like those John Player Special branded Formula One cars from the 1970′s. Here’s the official Press Release in full…

Klein: Back from the Dead

What most folks didn’t hear during all this buzz was the word Klein. That’s right Klein is coming back to the states. Just when Trek was pushing out the last old stock of Klein from their warehouses they decide the flip the switch back to on “On.”

The History of Turner Bikes

2000 Turner DHR

Thanks to the guys over on the Turner board of MTBR…We have a great time line of the events that surround Turner Bikes. I have been a huge fan of Dave’s bikes over the years (even owned one and will own more in the future), so I find this story very interesting.

We also included some pictures of old and new Turner bikes in the gallery below…

Cane Creek Headset Upgrade at Sea Otter!

Sea Otter 2008 is almost upon us. This event has become a mainstay of the cycling culture, not only for racers but for industry veterans as well. To reward attendees for their unwavering loyalty of this event, Cane Creek is offering headset upgrades to the brand new 110. The offer is available on-site only and will be installed at the venue to factory spec.

GM Buys Specialized

In case you missed it yesterday, one of the best publicly released April Fool’s jokes in the bike industry hit yesterday. Not seconds after Silicon Valley Business Journal released the fake article, bloggers and websites went crazy spreading the news. It was fun to watch. I guess sometimes people just can’t remember what day it is! Word on the street is that even Mark Sinyard got in on the hoax by assuring people that it was true, but when dealers started calling left and right worried about the news, he told them the truth.

New SRAM Website – Truvativ HammerSchmidt

SRAM is planning something big for 2008. Word on the street is the front derailleur will be a part of the past.

Brian Lopes's Ibis Quiver

Brian Lopes’s recent announcement of a sponsorship deal with Ibis caught many of us by surprise. Much speculation quickly followed suit regarding which Ibis models he’d be riding. Bike magazine HQ happens to be right around the corner from Casa de Lopes so last week he swung by our office to give us a complete tour of his new quiver.

New Shimano Component Groups – SLX and LX

SLX Cranks

Say hello to the new component group from Shimano…SLX. Set to replace the Hone and LX line for mountain biking, the SLX is marketed as a heavier duty all mountain group for the Shimano line. So far from the pictures, it appears that Shimano mixed the previous LX and Hone together and added a new look along with the some features that were added to the XTR line. The rear derailleur shows some XTR-like characteristics. This line will still fall below the XT line in price and is designed around the growing popularity of 5″ and 6″ trail bikes.

The "New" 15mm Thru-axle Standard from Fox and Shimano

Maxle Lite

Everyone that is saying that 15mm is going to be lighter than 20mm has no engineering background at all. All things created equal…the difference with the same materials and parts would at most be several grams…and this small difference would not be felt on the bike when it is actually ridden.
